Bank of Ireland Business Banking today (Thursday 3 November, 2005) launched its sixth monthly 'Cork Job Index'. Six Months Ago 'The Professional sector continues to surge ahead of other sectors with regard to labour demand.Anecdotal evidence suggests that many professionals are now recruiting to meet demands for the New Year..'

The October issue of the 'Cork Job Index' shows that the Professional sector continues to be the leading sector with regard to recruitment demand with 1,309 recruitment advertisements being placed for the month of October.

In total 5,135 recruitment advertisements were placed in local newspapers in Cork in October, representing a 24% decrease on the month of September, a month which is traditionally buoyant for recruitment.

Commenting on six months of the 'Cork Job Index', Kieran Coveney, Regional Business Manager, Bank of Ireland with responsibility for Cork said: 'The 'Cork Job Index' has clearly shown over the past six months the strength of the Cork economy and the demand for labour particularly in Professional, Leisure and Construction sectors.Interestingly, the Index shows that demand for labour is more evenly spread across all sectors than other urban areas suggesting that people looking for employment have greater choices open to them in Cork than anywhere else in the country.'

Continuing, he said:'The Professional sector continues to surge ahead of other sectors with regard to labour demand.Anecdotal evidence suggests that many professionals are now recruiting to meet demands for the New Year..'
