Pat Liddy, the well-known Dublin artist and historian, whose work has
included many illustrated books on Dublin, will be launching his new exhibition,The Castles of Dublin & its Pale, at the Bank of Ireland Arts
Centre, Foster Place on Monday evening, 24 October, 2005. The show will run until 12
November. The centre is open daily (except Sundays and Mondays) and admission is free.
The Castles of Dublin and its Pale
In this exhibition Pat highlights the extraordinary medieval campaign of castle-building
in and around medieval Dublin in order to protect the territory of the Pale from the
incursions of the rebellious Irish. Did you know that?
Using the media of watercolour, pen & ink and oil on canvass, the exhibition features a selection of the castles from great piles like Trim Castle to small tower houses such as Ashtown Castle in the Phoenix Park. An intriguing history of each castle accompanies the paintings.
A number of very interesting events also accompany this celebration of our remarkable castle heritage and will add greatly to the enjoyment of the exhibition and give rare insight into the life and times of medieval Ireland..
