Statement from the Irish Payment Services Organisation Ltd RE: ATM Cash Service disruption

04-Aug-04

To follow up on the recent issues affecting up to 200 non-branch ATMs in the Eastern Seaboard Area (which includes Dublin, the North East and the South East regions) due to industrial action by one of the main security cash delivery companies that provides cash replenishment services to ATMs in the Eastern region of the country, the Irish Payment Services Organisation (IPSO) has advised that a further 80 branch ATMs in the region may be affected over the coming days due to the ongoing dispute.

IPSO is advising customers who may experience difficulty in accessing cash in the affected areas on the other options available to them for methods of payment for goods and services.

Commenting today Una Dillon, Manager IPSO Card Services said "Customers can use Laser Cards which are accepted in over 37,000 retail outlets nationwide. Laser cardholders can avail of the Laser Cashback facility which is also widely available at many locations around the country. In addition, many supermarkets, convenience stores and forecourts now have in-store ATMs that can be used." She said "Credit Cards can be used to pay for goods and services throughout the country. If consumers have access to phone and online banking, some of the services on offer such as checking account balance, paying bills and transferring funds may be an alternative option to using the ATM."

The security cash delivery company is in ongoing discussions with SIPTU to bring a resolution to this issue as quickly as possible.
