Bank of Ireland today (Friday 6 August) confirmed that, following a number of "hole in the wall" type attacks on its Branch ATMs in recent weeks, it is introducing enhanced security features in order to prevent further similar type incidents.
According to Anne Mathews, Media Relations Manager, Bank of Ireland: "Whilst security at our Branch ATMs is of a very high standard, we are conscious of the need to now introduce enhanced security measures in a number of remote branch locations.
"We have identified a small number of locations that could potentially be vulnerable to similar type attacks. It is our intention to remove the cash from these ATMs after close of business until the new security features are in place. These are expected to be in place in a very short timeframe".
Bank of Ireland advised that this will impact on only a very small number of Branch locations and that it was a short-term measure in order to protect the continuity of service to our customers. The Bank apologises to any customer that will be affected by this but confirmed that retail ATMs are available in all the identified locations."
